TF Sport Corvettes had the pace but lacked the luck in WEC round 6 at the Circuit of the Americas
Factory driver Dani Juncadella with teammates Hiroshi Koizumi and Sebastien Baud finished 8th in the TF Sport # 82 Z06 GT3.R LMGT3 Corvette, notching the team’s fourth finish in the points.
Koizumi started and Baud drove the middle stints of the six-hour race.
Juncadella took over in 15th place with about two-and-a-half hours to go, carving his way as the fastest car the field as the trio rebounded from two drive-through penalties.
Tom Van Rompuy qualified a credible fifth in the TF Sport # 81 Z06 GT3.R Corvette and moved up to third doing a double stint before turning over to Rui Andrade
Andrade climbed aboard and kept moving up to grab second place.
Shortly thereafter, Rahel Frey in the # 85 Iron Dames Lamborghini LMGT3 bumped Andrade off-course in an overly aggressive attempt to pass at turn 15.
Charlie Eastwood took over, also with about two-and-a-half hours to go but damage to the toe link trashed the handling, causing a lengthy trip to the garage for a replacement that ultimately forced the team to quit and settle for 16th in LMGT3.
Alex Rebiera led the # 27 Heart of Racing team Aston Martin LMGT3 to victory over the nemesis # 92 Manthey Porsche.
The # 83 AF Corsa Ferrari Hypercar won the 6-hour race by a scant 3 seconds in a thrilling finish vs the # 7 Team Gazoo Toyota.
The WEC circus flies off to Mt Fuji Japan for the seventh round on Sept 15-16 before the final race on Nov 2-3 in Bahrain.
