Win at Hockenheim ups Callaway C7 GT3-R drivers to 3rd in standings at ADAC-GT Masters season’s end
# 1 C7 GT3-R of Daniel Keilwitz and Marvin Kirchhofer scored an emphatic victory on Saturday placing them 2nd in the drivers’ standings heading into Sunday.
Back in July the Callaway drivers looked like repeat champions after the double-win in Austria but five (5) non-points finishes during the year were costly.
On Sunday an electrifying dash from qualifying way back in 27th (screwed by traffic and track changing wet to dry) to 7th was not enough to push past three other contenders. The # 1 Callaway Corvette C7 GT3-R drivers emerged third in the final standings with 123 points.
The winner of the shuffle, the # 99 Precote Porsche emerged with (137 points),
just one above the # 28 Montaplast Audi (136 points)
and the # 47 Mann Filter AMG 4th place (117 points) set back by an early crash.
Sven Barth and Claudia Hertgen driving # 13 Gerd Beisel’s RWT Team scored an astonishing 6th place on Sat but fell to 27th (not scored) on Sunday.
In the words of team founder and principal Ernst Woehr, 65, “We end the 2018 ADAC GT Masters GT3 season on a positive: Race 1 victory & a MEGA comeback drive to P7 (from P27) for Race 2. Despite 5 non-points scoring races, the # 1 still managed P3 in the Drivers Title (only 14 points adrift). Onward 2019! 123 points, 3 wins, 5 no points”.
ADAC Sports President Hermann Tomczyk called the 2018 season the most exciting in its 12-year history.
