Scott Borchetta extends win streak at SVRA Sebring opener
Scott Borchetta soundly beat a bunch of Mustangs, Jags, Porsches and other Corvettes in SVRA’s popular group 6. Scott and pro co-driver Jade Buford also won the SVRA vintage class endurance race.
The Nashville entrepreneur who made good selling the portfolio rights to country pop star Taylor Swift is now on a roll racing vintage Corvettes.
The # 98 was in the shadows until now. It was built back in 1969 by the same folks behind the renowned and much-celebrated Owens-Corning Corvettes. An American serviceman raced it overseas but it was never developed to the extent needed to win in vintage racing as we know it today.
Scott started racing vintage Corvettes with this club race car from Texas that he also upgraded into a winner.
While the overall number of Corvette entries were down, the exotic GS 006 of Walo Bertschinger counts for a lot and C2 Corvettes like those of Jim Heck and C3 of Chris Ronson Sr are always popular. All finished in the top 10.
Turning to Group 10, this 1968 Corvette was a class winner in the gifted hands of young Bobby Kennedy from Ormond Beach FL. Rob “Bosco” Logsdon opted for a contemporary tube-frame design and a 327 motor with 1980's Brodix 23 degree heads makes 572 hp resulting in a hot performing tribute car which at a glance could belong in Group 6 right down to the Owens-Corning Corvettes mentioned above.
Veteran Trans Am racer Henry Gilbert from Miramar FL raced this 2014 C7 TA/GT1.
Lance Ausec from Bradenton FL debuted this 2000 C5 TA/GT1 Hoerr HRP2001-1.
John Kyle from Davie FL brought out his 2009 C6 FIA GT4, one of 6 built by Callaway Competition in Leingarten GERMANY.
The huge Corvette turnout for the car show would have been even greater had the “Texas energy experts” been prepared for extreme cold winter storms that closed the interstates and stopped the “Corvette Invasion” dead in its tracks.
