Callaway Competition finishes 13th two times at the Nurburing finale
The # 77 Callaway Competition C7 GT3.R Corvette of Marvin Kirchoffer & Jeffrey Schmidt ended the season finishing 13th in the final 2 races at the Nurburgring; and 10th in the driver standings. These are credible results taking into account the misfortunes of fire damage, the re-jiggered schedule and the close competition.
The Corvette adds spice like no other marque to the ACAC-GT Masters, a series heavily populated by Audi, BMW, Mercedes & Porsche, evenly balanced to perform within a tight range.
In race 1 the # 77 Corvette starting 21st gained 8 places helped by caution flags and a good pit strategy.
In race 2 a crash by the pole-sitting # 7 Porsche stopped the action after which the # 77 Corvette, starting 11th moved up to 6th, then lost out by pitting early, dropping to 18th and finishing 13th as others cycled through.
Saturday’s winner, pole-sitter and ADAC-GT series champ was the # 29 Montplast by Land Audi R8 LMS GT3 of Ricardo Feller and Christopher Mies.
Sunday’s winner was the # 92 SSR Performance Porsche 911 GT3.R of Michael Ammermüller and Mathieu Jaminet, in a repeat victory from Oschersleben.
Word is that the V8 Racing Team from Holland is looking to enter the 24 hours of Dubai this coming January with # 22 C7 GT3-R 004 acquired from RWT racing.
And that Bingo Racing from Japan headed by Shinji Takei plans to be back in the Blancpain GT Asia Series at Suzuka in August with # 37 C7 GT3-R 005.
