Corvettes make it two in a row on July 18 in Cadillac GP at Sebring
Corvettes swept first and second in the 2-hour 40-minute race. (The traditional 12-hours of Sebring is re-scheduled to close out the season on Nov 11-14).
Oliver Gavin (silver C8.R # 4) held off teammate Antonio Garcia (yellow C8.R # 3) to score his and Tommy Milner’s first win since the 2018 Acura Grand Prix at Long Beach.
Race engineer Chuck Hought’s fuel strategy squeezed an extra lap; and pit work carried out by car chief Brian Hoye and crew really paid off.
Pole qualifier Tommy Milner credited an entire new set-up after struggling in limited practice sessions.
The Corvettes swapped the lead after a first round pit road collision between their Porsche rivals.
The # 912 RSR of Laurant Vanthoor lost its nose and a few laps later a cut right-rear tire from that impact sent the # 911 RSR of Nick Tandy off course in turn 2. An amazing recovery by Earl Bamber brought the # 912 Porsche team to second in the standings just a point behind the # 3 Corvette team after three races.
Per Jordan Taylor, “It’s a great day for Corvette Racing, two wins in three races and our first 1-2 since 2016”. New lap record https://twitter.com/i/status/1285301791803019265
