# 3 Corvette is 4th, keeps points lead; # 4 Corvette DNF as all hell broke loose at Mosport
Fourth place is not so bad considering both BMWs, both Porsches and 1 Ford covered the GTLM field ahead of the Corvettes. In the first 2 hours at a white-knuckle track with lots of terrain and blind corners there was remarkably no caution flags.
While the BMWs surged ahead, Jan Magnussen & Antonio Garcia avoided trouble and moved up to 4th when gremlins finally struck the Porsches.
But then trouble struck for the # 4. The # 10 LMP1 leader Jordan Taylor clipped the right front of Tommy Milner in turn 4 trying to carry more speed down and up the hill approaching Moss corner turn 5. Contact from that ill-advised three-wide pass spun the # 4 and sent it into the tyre barrier. Watch the replay.
Per Doug Fehan, “We build our cars sturdy”. The # 4 will be repaired well in time for Lime Rock on July 21-22 and Milner was not hurt. When the pits opened, Taylor’s crew replaced broken rear bodywork and wing, allowing it to finish what was left of the race. # 31 Whelen Dane Cameron DPi Caddy won overall.
Following the clean-up, Dirk Mueller in the # 66 Ford GT might have caught Garcia # 3 Garcia but intermittent rain fell once again. The # 52 LMP2 Ligier of Boulle slid off course in turn 7, climbed the restraints and came to rest upside down, mercifully bringing the race to close under another yellow flag.
