ADA –GT Masters Oschersleben

2014 ADAC-GT Master Sports Car Championship www.adac-gt-masters.de/uk

Allgemeinen Deutschen Automobil-Club (ADAC) was founded in 1902.  Today it touches almost every aspect of automobile travel in Germany, comparing with the US “Triple A” (AAA).   Operations beyond  include land, air and water rescue plus a wide variety of motorsports activity.  The ADAC-GT Masters Series is just one facet, although a highly prestigious one. The ADAC GT Masters grand touring auto racing series was founded by the Stephane Ratel Organization (SRO).  It is sanctioned by the German ADAC automotive club.   Similar to an earlier ADAC GT Cup series in the 1990s, the new GT Masters ran their first season in 2007.  Most of the races are in Germany.  Others are held at various tracks in Europe. Drivers: The ADAC-GT Masters is a “Pro-Am” Championship. The Series uses a formula similar to the FIA GT3 European Championship, also created by SRO.  Each team is required to field a car shared by a professional (paid) driver and an amateur (gentleman) driver.  Rules are set by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).  Events consist of two 60 minute races.  The drivers must make a pit stop during each race and switch drivers. The drivers must also swap their driving order from one race to the other.  In the first race the amateur driver usually drives the start. This leaves the pro driver to start the second race of each round. Cars:  The following marques are approved by the FIA for 2014.   Their performance is balanced to make them as equal as possible, thereby putting the emphasis on driver skills.  Chevrolet Corvette ZO6R GT3, Dodge Viper Competition Coupe, Porsche 997 GT3 Cup, Ferrari F458 GT3, Lamborghini Gallardo GT3, Audi R8 LMS, Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3, BMW Z4 GT3 and Alpina B6 GT3, Nissan GT-R, McLaren MP4-12C GT3 and Mercedes Benz – SLS AMG GT3.
