Trans Am at Watkins Glen

  • Watkins Glen International 2790 County Road 16, Watkins Glen, NY 14891 (map)

Amy Ruman finishes 5th in TA and Kaylee Bryson finishes 2nd in SGT at Watkins Glen

Consistency counts.  # 23 Amy Ruman’s top 5 finish gives her a fighting chance for 3rd place in the overall TA class at the end of the championship season.

TA winner # 16 Chris Dyson set a new course record but he and other TA winners like Paul Menard are stealing points from one-another at this stage of the game.

# 02 Kaylee Bryson’s second place keeps her in the fight to win the SGT class championship.

SGT winner # 84 Lee Saunders (Viper) believes Kaylee would have won at the Glen had she not had to conserve fuel at the end.  Kaylee, Saunders and the late Richard Forsythe had been locked in a 3-way battle for SGT.

Richard Forsythe sadly passed away unexpectedly on July 29 at age 65.  “He was a great friend and a great racer,” said crew chief Jason Smith.

Forsythe, owner-driver from Cresson TX still leads in points for now, racing a C6 Z06 Corvette prepared by GSpeed headed by Louis Gigliotti.

Don McMillon from Texarkana finished 5th in SGT.

James Beaton from Manotick Ontario, shown above in practice, never made the start in his C6 XGT Corvette.

Attendance was down for the Trans Am/SVRA Speed Tour, considerably without the downtown street festival and the 6.6-mile race re-enactment on the customary first weekend in September.

In its place will be NASCAR that NBC TV moved ahead in order to wrap up the Paris Olympics and all its splendor.

The Trans Am heads north to CANADA for the first time to race at the white-knuckled, hair-raising Mosport circuit.
