Tommy Milner wins twice in SRO World Challenge at VIR
Corvette veteran Tommy Milner, paired up with Alec Udell to win the PRO class races on Saturday and Sunday, July 20/21 in their DXDT team # 63 Z06 GT3 Corvette.
While Udell and Milner started from pole respectively in ninety-minute events staged each day, the outcome each day was far from assured.
On Saturday, Udell fell back on re-starts after three early caution periods bunched up the cars.
Milner held third place having taken over at the mandatory pit stop; and inherited the lead, completing 38 laps, when a fourth full-course yellow hung out to dry the top two cars # 120 Adam Adelson and # 85 Spencer Pumpelly who had yet to pit in their Porsche 992 GT3.Rs.
On Sunday, Milner led all the way to the driver change in the 48-lap race but Udell needed to get past Trent Hindman in the # 85 Porsche who gained the lead from doing a faster pit stop.
Bryan Sellers and Scott Smithson in the DXDT team # 08 Z06 GT3 Corvette notched a first-time podium finish in the PROam class on Sunday after finishing sixth on Saturday.
The know-how gained by Tommy Milner, test driver all last year for the Z06 GT3.R at Pratt & Milner was a factor as the DXDT team worked assiduously to sort out the car right up to qualifying.
Some 20 years after leading the GM-backed Corvette Racing team, Corvette legend Johnny O’Connell is back, winning the SRO3 class in the # 3 Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO II fielded by the SKI team founded by Kent and Melissa Hussey. (SKI jokingly stands for “Some Kid’s Inheritance”)
Breaking News department: Just before VIR, CrowdStrike suffered a calamitous crash of a routine software update that disabled 8.5 million users who rely on virus protection from his multi-billion company, now deemed “Too big to fail”. CEO George Kurtz (and his # 04 AMG GT3) was apologetic on CNBC and testified to the US Congress on July 24, putting his racing hobby on hold.
