Pratt & Miller # 3 Corvette finishes third in IMSA 6-hour race at Watkins Glen disrupted by heavy downpours
Alexander Sims (UK) qualified on the front row and ran in second place until a “squishy” pedal forced a pit stop to replace the right front brake caliper, about an hour into the race.
Sims fell to 10th but fast work kept the # 3 Z06 GT3.R Corvette on the lead lap.
The Pratt & Miller crew intermittently changed dry & wet tires and handled re-fueling through a chaotic race that kept Sims and Antonio Garcia (ESP) in position to finish 3rd behind winner # 23 Aston Martin GT3 Evo of Alex Riberas/Ross Gunn & runner-up # 9 McLaren 720S GT3 Evo of Oliver Jarvis/Marvin Kirchhofer.
The biggest disruption occurred when rains from another downpour flooded parts of the track, forcing IMSA officials to red-flag the race with about an hour to go.
Nicky Catsburg (NE) and Tommy Milner (USA) soldiered on in the # 4 Z06 GT3.R Corvette but got caught short on fuel while leading the race with only 16 minutes before the checker flag flew.
Milner came in for a splash on the white flag lap, relinquishing the lead and dropping to 7th.
The # 13 AWA Racing Z06 GT3.R of Matt Bell (UK), Orey Fidani (CN) and Lars Kern (NE) finished 13th in GTD class following a similarly chaotic race. Fidani cemented his lead for the Bob Akin Award which goes to the highest point-scoring Bronze-rated driver in GTD.
