Both TF Sport Corvettes earn points in 6-hour FIA World Endurance Championship race at Imola
The # 81 & # 82 Z06 GT3.R LMGT3 Corvettes finished 7th & 8th respectively out of 18 entries.
The WRT team mastered the art of racing in the rain throughout the final 2 hours. (Author Garth Stein must have been calling the shots). Their # 46 & # 31 BMW M4 turbo LMGT3 cars finished 1st and 2nd on slicks, completing 187 laps, 2 ahead of the Corvettes.
The # 81 Corvette of Tom Van Rompuy, Rui Andrade and Charlie Eastwood starting 11th made the switch to wets in the final going;
As did the # 82 Corvette of Dani Juncadella, Sebastian Baud, and Hiroshi Koizumi starting 13th. Both moved up the field but were outfoxed as the track had more grip than expected.
TF Sport did better at managing fuel over 9 scheduled stops, gaining speed as fuel burned off while conserving enough gas to make it to the end.
In contrast to LMGT3, the fastest # 50 Ferrari 499P hyper car stayed on slicks but lost out to the # 7 Toyota Gazoo GRO 10 that switched to wets, much to the chagrin of the Tifosi.
Flags flew at the 3.05-mile, 19-turn AUTODROMO ENZO E DINO FERRARI circuit in the Republic of San Marino in central Italy commemorating the tragic death of the legendary F1 champ Ayerton Senna. He died 30 years ago in a one-car crash during practice at the Tamburello turn (which has since been modified).
The WEC circus which heads to Spa- Francorchamps Belgium on May 11 is a model of diversity, equity and inclusion. Sophie Bull of the TF Sport team worked her way up to lead mechanic overseeing the Corvettes piloted by citizens of Belgium, Angola, the former Portuguese colony, Ireland, Spain, France and Japan.
