A celebration for the late E. Reeves Callaway at a gathering of friends in Michigan
The unexpected death of Reeves Callaway on July 11, 2023 brought friends from far & wide to celebrate and carry on his legacy on Sept 28-Oct 1 in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Reeves was an extraordinary talent, a leader who inspired others with a personality bigger than life.
Reeves and his partner Ernst Woehr from Leingarten Germany were the first to bring Corvettes to the world stage starting in 1987.
In 2006, Callaway Competition built five VIN “experimental” C6 Z06.R GT3 models they got homologated by the FIA. That led to GT4 models in 2009 along with more GT3 models that saw action across Europe and in Asia. Production capped off with the C7 GT3-R in 2016.
Plans for Michigan on the Corvette’s 70th anniversary came to fruition through George Haddad (Fabulous Restoration shop) and the generosity of John Kyle (friend of Reeves, influential car owner and host).
Ernst, head of Callaway Competition traveled from Europe and Paul Deutschman, Callaway designer traveled from Canada. Mike Zoner, head of operations from early on traveled from Connecticut and Pete Callaway, Reeves’ son and heir traveled from California.
These Callaway Corvettes got to stretch their legs on the 1.5-mile circuit at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac MI.
The lavish M1 Concourse complex arose on an 87-acre site in Pontiac, MI once occupied by a GM manufacturing plant. 255+ garage mahals surround this unique venue that offers an enticing blend of events and entertainment for gearheads and guests.
