Vintage Racers helped celebrate Corvette’s oncoming 70th anniversary at Lime Rock Park HF40 on Sept 1-5, 2022.
Grand Sport chassis 004, the most valuable Corvette in the world, was both in action and on display courtesy of the REVS Institute and its crew that traveled from Naples FL.
Driving was entrusted to veteran Dave Handy of SASCO Motorsports.
Jim Glass from Kingston NY won the Production Car class in Group 7 in his # 11 1965 roadster.
Tom Cotter, a/k/a “The Barn Find Hunter” followed in his # 33 1964 roadster, making its first appearance since getting bashed a year and a half ago in a mishap at the road course “Roval” just outside his home town of Davidson NC.
Joe Riolo from Woodbury CT won an award and was also fast in his # 13 1965 Corvette Roadster. It made its way from Steve George in the early 1990s to Salt Lake City UT and a full-blown makeover by none other than Dave Kindig’s crew at Bitchin’ Rides.
Martin Hosek from Salem NH won overall in his # 39 1959 Sports Racing class Devin Special. It is built around a lightweight space frame and has a 366 cubic inch NASCAR motor.
Michael Silverman from Scottsdale AZ ran further back in his # 651 1959 Sports Racing Corvette special, powered by a 283 cubic inch fuel injected Corvette motor. One of three known as the Echidna, that’s not so bad considering it sits on a 1959 Cheve Passenger Car frame.
Scott Heckert, a pro driver who grew up in Ridgefield CT won the Group 9 race for “Big Bore” production cars in his # 34 1965 Corvette prepared by SASCO mentioned above. Beating Donovan Racing’s “cheater” XKE Jags was a sight to behold at the tight tricky 1.5 - mile Lime Rock circuit.
Dave Handy in the Grand Sport with its 377 cubic inch engine fed by four weber carburetors hooked up to a cross ram manifold had the power but not the best traction in the corners.
Glen Every from Rhinebeck NY pressured the Jags in his # 113 1969 Corvette Coupe.
Chris Homer from Westbrook ME was a bit off in his # 49 1964 Corvette Coupe. Its workmanship, engineering and preparation are evident from upgrades over the years.
David Neidell from Tulsa OK returned from a hiatus to race his # 75 1969 Corvette upgraded from an autocross car.
Tony Carpenzano from Danbury CT piloted this # 8 1969 Corvette Coupe on loan from Jim Glass.
A broken rocker arm was a show-stopper for Martin Hosek’s # 39 1978 IMSA/Trans Am/GT1 Corvette. This monster originally saw action in the mid-west as # 06 with Steve Gentile followed as # 19 with Ray Mulacek. The crew at KTR Engineering has all winter to get it running again.
