C7 GT3R Corvette turns heads at St Pete
Designed to compete in the German ADAC-GT Masters Series, these state-of-the-art Callaway Competition C7 GT3R Corvettes won the ADAC GT Masters Drivers Championship in 2017. They have continued to enjoy great success.
The team has stopped for now because Mid-engine C8 GT3 customer cars (built by Pratt Miller in the USA) are coming along to race in 2024.
Meanwhile, current customers like Mirco Schultis, are racing C7 GT3R Corvettes both in Europe and abroad.
Callaway team principal Ernst Woehr and his crew from Leingarten Germany were on hand to help Mirco in the SRO GT America support race for the INDY CAR feature on the street/airport circuit at St Pete.
Never having sat in the car until the day before, Mirco, an accomplished driver who has raced at Le Mans, finished 7th in race 1, posting the second fastest lap by 0.017 seconds behind the fastest Mercedes AMG GT3.
That performance earned Mirco second spot on the Race 2 grid.
Unfortunately, a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 punted into an Audi R8 GT3 that spun Mirco’s Corvette off the track. The result was a DNF due to a broken clutch.
Despite several logistical hurdles to get the car shipped to the circuit, MISHUMOTORS had the # 70 C7 GT3-R ready for the first practice session.
Given these challenges in the buildup to the race, it was remarkable to see the car perform so well after a long absence in USA competition.
We hope for success in future US races to come and thank Walt Thurn, a long-time Callaway confident for the account and his photos plus photos from Larry VanScoy and screenshots of the accident.
