Rising Trans Am star shares the stage with NASCAR at Road America
A packed house watched Justin Oakes from Houston TX take his fourth Trans Am SGT class win at Road America on the July 4th holiday weekend shared with NASCAR.
Oakes driving his # 11 Droneworks C6 Corvette passed Lee Saunders in his # 84 Dodge Viper on lap 2 for the lead.
“What a wonderful experience, I feel so fortunate to be here,” said Oakes. “It is beautiful weather, Road America is amazing, and the fans here are even better. GSpeed built me an incredible machine that’s composed, balanced and reliable.”
Third generation NASCAR driver Cody Ware from Huntersville NC placed 5th overall in the # 4 TA Corvette furnished by Tony Ave Racing. He was 24th overall in the # 17 Cheve entered by the Rick Ware NASCAR team.
Matthew Butson from Snohomish Wash was 11th in the # 24 TA Corvette also supplied by Tony Ave Racing.
TA Corvette regulars Richard Grant and Amy Ruman did not fare well finishing 12th and 14th after a front suspension failure.
Mike Phillips # 97 C6 SGT ran great until falling to 5th with trouble the near the end of the 25 lap (100 mile) race.
On lap 5 approaching turn one, an exuberant Aaron Pierce # 26 C6 SGT Corvette tangled with Anthony Magagnoli # 41 Mustang, slowing the field for 6 caution laps while the wreckage was cleared.
Aaron’s team mate Larry Bailey # 02 C6 SGT then went off in the kink, slowing the action for another four laps.
