Tommy Milner wins Exhibition Race at Detroit Belle Isle
The Corvette Racing Team made a rare appearance on GM’s home turf at the Detroit Belle Isle Chevrolet Grand Prix on June 11-12, 2021.
The team is normally in France that weekend preparing for the 24 hours of Le Mans.
Showcasing the team and new special edition models in front of the GM community was worth the effort that included a special Chevy MyWay event live from the track.
It was agreed in advance that no points would be awarded as the Corvettes ran un-opposed in a sprint race lasting 100 minutes.
Nick Tandy set the fastest qualifying time in the # 4 edging out Jordan Taylor in the # 3 Corvette by 0.323 seconds.
In what looked like a staged finish to a fun race, Tommy Milner was a scant 0.226 seconds ahead of Antonio Garcia via track position gained from pitting 3 laps before the # 3.
Now it’s back to reality for 3 races in 4 weekends starting with the traditional 6-hour endurance race at Watkins Glen on June 19.
