New season gets off to a rough start at Oschersleben
Callaway Competition, the longest running and winningest team in the ADAC-GT Masters Series, began its 14th season at Oschersleben in its newly decked out Corvette C7 GT3-R. The opposition consisted of 10 Audi, 7 Lambos, 7 Porsches, 4 Mercedes, BMW and a Honda NSX.
Rain and fog blanketed the track as Sunday’s race got underway. Gridded 4th, Marvin Kirchhöfer in the # 77 Corvette C7 GT3-R got slammed into by Marcus Winkelhock in the # 69 Audi R8 LMS. The impact, caught on TV by ADAC’s new partner NITRO, caused major damage and a frustrating DNF.
The winner, getting away unscathed from pole was the # 92 Porsche 911 GT3 R of SSR Performance piloted by Michael Ammermüller & Mathieu Jaminet.
Callaway Competition started 11th, finished mid-pack in 13th in Saturday’s race.
The winner was the # 70 Mercedes AMG GT3 evo of Mann Filter piloted by Maximilian Buhk & Raffaele Marciello.
Team co-founder Ernst Woehr recruited Marvin Kirchhöfer, who raced for Callaway in 2018 and 2019 to pair up with Jeffrey Schmidt who joined the team last year. They were already teammates in the ADAC Formula Masters in 2012 and have known each other since karting.
