# 11 Justin Oakes takes 2nd 2021 Trans Am SGT win at Laguna Seca
# 11 Justin Oakes Droneworks C6 Corvette, Trans Am SGT Sebring winner is victorious again in his first ever appearance at Laguna Seca.
Oakes was awarded the “ChillOut Moment of the Race but would have traded that for a battle with Lou Gigliotti (see next).
Veteran Lou Gigliotti, running second in SGT class, blew up smoking into the turn 4 gravel trap, briefly stopping the race and bringing out the caution on lap 19 of the 45-lap race.
Newcomer Mike Weathers, a fellow Texan in a GSpeed Corvette that Gigliotti readied in 2 weeks, inherited 2nd in class although way off the pace of the veteran.
# 99 Justin Marks was the quickest Corvette in the TA class qualifying in the top 5.
The ex-NASCAR driver Marks got into David Pintaric (former Corvette driver) entering the corkscrew turn on lap 33 that cost Marks 2 laps and a 40-second penalty.
# 23 Amy Ruman was off her game, qualified 9th and finished 8th after a hit from the Camaro of Simon Gregg (former Corvette driver).
# 13 Steve Goldman finished one spot behind, taking a shot in his 1997 C5 GT1, a front runner in northwest vintage racing.
The second caution bunched the field for a restart that was won by the # 8 Camaro of Tomy Drissi after penalties were assessed to Boris Said, (each having raced in Corvettes)
Legend # 19 Kerry Hitt (yet another former Corvette driver) won the seniors award in his Caddy CTS-V.
Next up is Lime Rock Park’s traditional Memorial Day weekend May 28-31.
