Callaway Competition salvages 5th after a DNF at Nurburgring
With strict social-distancing rules enforced, the track opened their gates to 5,000 eager fans.
No sports car racing series is more evenly matched than the 2020 ADAC-GT Masters. The top twenty-six supercars qualified within one second of each other.
On Saturday the lone Corvette # 77 C7 GT3 R of Marcus Pommer & Jeffrey Schmidt was off by about 1/2 second and started behind eleven other cars.
The engine mysteriously stalled during the pit stop revealing a bent valve that forced the car out of the race. Oil starvation was the cause from a pump that failed in earlier practice.
Two 911 GT3 R Porsches (from a field of seven) were winners at Nurburgring. Introduced in 2015, these are 4.0 liter, 550 hp sequential 6-speed based on the Porsche 991.
Michael Ammermuller & Christian Engelhard in the SSR Performance # 92 Porsche 911 GT3 R won from the pole.
A spare engine was installed overnight and on Sunday the Callaway boys qualified third. Lost time in the pits cost them 2 spots resulting in 5th place.
Another Porsche team of Sven Muller & Robert Renauer driving the # 99 Precote Herberth came from 5th for the win.
