Callaway Competition starts its 14 th year at Lausitzring
Callaway Competition from Leingarten Germany is an integral part of the ADAC-GT Masters Series “Super Sports Car League” since 2007 with 33 victories, two driver titles and team titles under manager Mike Gramke.
Starting their fourteenth straight season, their # 77 C7 GT3-R is the sole Corvette racing against seven other marques in a thirty-three car field of Audi R8 LMS (13), Porsche 911 GT3R (7), Mercedes AMG GT3 (6), BMW M6 GT3 (3), Lamborghini Huracan Evo GT3 (2) and Bentley Continental GT3 (1).
The re-built chassis is decked out in striking new livery and driven by Markus Pommer, 29 (DE) and Jeffrey Schmidt, 26 (CH) who replaces Marvin Kirchhöfer, 26 (CH) from last year.
Qualifying is always close, in this case 31 cars timed within one second! Markus started Saturday’s race 1 in 8th position and was feeling his adrenaline perhaps a bit too quickly. He tried to out-brake a Porsche running in 4th, momentarily lost it, ran over some bumps and hit another Porsche ending their race.
The winners were Maro Engel & Luca Stolz Toksport WRT Mercedes AMG GT3.
Jeffrey started 24th on Sunday (the car penalized 10 spots for Saturday’s incident) and the team managed to finish 12th with Marcus following the mandatory driver change.
The winners were Dries Vanthoor & Charles Weerts WRT Audi R8 LMS.
