Mid-field results at Oschersleben bring the 2020 ADAC-GT season to a forgettable end on November 8
Callaway Competition finished 13th on Saturday and 14th at on Sunday at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben.
The team and drivers Marcus Pommer & Jeffrey Schmidt were competitive at times this year, just not enough with 25 cars typically qualifying within one second of each other.
Longevity and experience with the car (set-up), the tracks (tyres) and respect among their peers (dealing with BoP weight and air restrictors) are as good as it gets.
Callaway should bounce back because they have won, finished top two & three and are never below the top 5 all time.
Overall, Corvettes built and fielded by Callaway Competition are considered critical to the success of ADAC-GT since the series began in 2007.
Similar to Corvettes built and fielded by the Pratt & Miller Corvette Racing Team have been critical to the popularity of the USCR IMSA series (and the ALMS that preceded it).
Nonetheless, 2020 was the worst on record for Callaway Competition. Best chalked up as a learning experience.
Saturday’s winner was the # 92 Porsche 911 GT3R of Michael Ammermüller and Christian Engelhart from SSR Performance. With 4th place on Sunday, it is remarkable they won the coveted ADAC-GT series championship in their first year out.
Sunday’s race went to # 48 AMG GT3EVO of Philip Ellis & Raffaelle Marciello from Knauss HTP.
We plan to keep up with developments and look for better in 2021.
