Amy Ruman # 23 C7 TA Corvette is 3rd in 2020 Trans Am final standings and Droneworks # 11 C6 ZO6 Corvette wins SGT at Road Atlanta
By finishing 5th & 7th in the double-header at Road Atlanta, Amy Ruman tied for third w/long-time Corvette rival Simon Gregg who switched to a re-bodied Derhaag Camaro.
Ruman Racing is fully invested in Trans Am beginning with Bob Ruman in 1996 at St. Pete. It’s been a family affair with Amy in the driver’s seat starting in 2005 at Cleveland.
TA class cars are powered by 366 cu in 850+ hp carbureted engines in tube-frame chassis that are fast and fun to drive. Teams can use smaller crews because there is no need to re-fuel during the 100-mile races.
# 11 Justin Oakes driving a C6 ZO6 Corvette wrapped in splashy Droneworks graphics is a new force in the SGT class. He won on Saturday and was leading on Sunday before the rear suspension broke.
The car is believed to be a Lou Gigliotti chassis design with lots of high-performance parts supplied by GSpeed at the Motorsports Ranch complex in Cresson TX about 14 mi SW of Ft Worth.
# 28 veteran Lou Gigliotti finished second in SGT in his Corvette that was once the center of a controversy about Michelin tires in ALMS GT2 in 2007.
# 26 Aaron Pierce was a distant 8th in SGT on Saturday with little luck in a TA2 Camaro that finished 20th on Sunday.
# 30 veteran Richard Grant was the TA Master winner, placing 9th.
Ernie Francis Jr won his fourth straight TA championship in a season idled nearly 4 months from early March to late June and shrunk to 9 races including double-headers packed into Sept VIR & Nov Road Atlanta that also hosted the SVRA Speed Tour. (see below)
# 24 driven by Ray Evernham, Jeff Gordon’s first NASCAR crew chief, won Vintage Group 10 in a Pancho Weaver chassis, one of three 2005 C6 SCCA GT1 built by Rick Dittman, a legend in his own right.
