# 3 Corvette Team leads GTLM points, winless after nine races with two to go
Is the # 3 Team Corvette the master of consistency or the master of falling upward?
By all odds they must win one for the Corvette to notch a third consecutive IMSA GTLM championship up for grabs on Oct 13 at Road Atlanta finale.
The # 3 Jan Magnussen & Antonio Garcia with 269 points is just 4 points ahead of # 67 Ford GT of Michael Westbrook & Ryan Briscoe and 9 points ahead of # 66 Ford GT of Dirk Mueller & Joey Hand.
The # 4 Corvette of Oliver Gavin & Tommy Milner is 17 points back, out of the running.
In all truth, the # 67 would be on top had the clutch not failed at the first pit stop while leading by a comfortable margin.
And the Corvette would have lost more ground had the # 911 Porsche of Nick Tandy not conked out halfway through, hauled away on a flatbed.
On lap 2, Tommy Milner fought for position with Earl Bamber Porsche # 912 entering the plunging esses to the Hog Pen corner. Right front damage screwed up the handling that put him and Oliver Gavin 6th at the end.
2nd place was a struggle for Magnussen, helped by pitstop strategy to hold off the # 24 BMW M8 turbo of Jesse Krohn whose teammate Alexander Sims caught a pit stop break to won handily in the # 25 BMW.
The full cast of prototype cars will join the fray at Laguna Seca on Sept 7-9.
