# 64 Special liveried C7.R Corvette of Gavin & Milner finishes GTE Pro 8th in drenched WEC Shanghai 6 hour race
Given that China ranks right up with the US for GM cars and trucks, the Company announced back in July that a special liveried Corvette would compete in the Chinese round of the World Endurance Championship Series (WEC) to help promote GM’s RedLine brand.
Besides the US & Canada, Corvettes have officially raced abroad only in France at Le Mans; whereas Ford, Porsche, BMW, Aston and Ferrari race across Europe and Asia.
Having battled all season to win an incredible third straight IMSA title decided at Road Atlanta, the Corvette racing team folks might view the Shanghai race as an afterthought, more about creating favor. Unfortunately, the good will part has now been undermined by a heated dispute between the US and China about unfair trade.
Not surprisingly the Corvette finished a mediocre 8th in an 11 car GTE Pro field won by an Aston Martin.
Fog and a heavy downpour that stopped the race did not help matters.
With the 24 hours of Daytona approaching on Jan 26-27, 2019 and the new mid-engine C8 Corvette debuting as the season unfolds, there is no time to rest.
