WeatherTech at Road America

# 46 AP Corvette of Jody O’Donnell wins group 6 and # 77 GT1 Corvette of Gunner Pfrang is 2nd in group 10 at Road America

Horsepower is a big deal at Road America.  The scenic 4.1 mile circuit remains intact since opening in 1957.  The Weather Tech (formerly the Hawk) has drawn huge fields and big crowds over the years.  The races, Concours and downtown festivities in mid-July are the centerpiece of vintage racing here in the USA.

In Sunday’s group 6 race (58 entries), the big block Corvette of Jody O’Donnell was first overall and looking more muscular every time it appears.

Same for the # 33 of Mike Donohue that was third overall and first of the small blocks.

There was a neat battle among # 3 Kirk Blaha, # 5 Travis Pfrang and # 15 Matt Jensen # 15 that came out 8-9-10 respectively.

In Sunday’s group 10 race, Gunner Pfrang # 77 C5 GT1 tube frame Corvette scored a remarkable 2nd against 60 other modern Trans Am/GT1, IMSA GT Mustangs, Camaros, Porsches and NASCAR Fords & Chevys.

The Lotzza Mozza Pfrang crew from nearby Appleton was out in force.

Seldom seen of late are the # 81 ex Sheldon Stafford big block that John Rische lovingly restored; and the # 68 of John Malmquist.

Bill Treffert’s upgraded # 24 is probably the most powerful straight axle Corvette in vintage racing today.

Pro John Lacko was there to shoot some terrific photos.  We also like that the Pfrang family was on hand.
