Jody O’Donnell wins, other Corvettes stand out against Porsche onslaught at HSR Mitty 40th anniversary race
# 46 Jody O’Donnell powered over a 39-car field including familiar rival # 33 Mike Donohue to win the always popular group 5 race for big bore production sports cars. Check these in-car videos, watch his mirrors for qualifying and the race.
# 6 Brad Hoyt and # 37 Claire Schwendeman were other contenders.
# 33 John Reisman in his ex 2015 Coyotte chassis Whelen Corvette IMSA GTP finished 2nd to Theo Bean 1988 Nissan Turbo in race group 6 for GTP cars.
Virtually all of the original Lola based Corvette GTP cars have been relegated to museums. It was a real treat to see the # 40 1985 Corvette GTP Eagle replica in the hands of Lyonel Kent for owner John Robarge.
# 64 Robert Blain had a good drive to 4th place in a 27-car field in race group 9 for IMSA GT/Trans Am GT1 cars.
Congrats to Author/Collector/Racer Tom Cotter for finishing 19th in his # 33 very original 327 cu in C2 in a massive 52 car field for race group 3 SCCA Production cars. The winner was a hot Porsche 914-6.
And also to Bernie Chodosh, irrepressible Brit for a mid-field finish in his hot-rodded C1 that was (appropriately) bumped to group 5.
There were 95 Porsches (1956-2009) entered in 5 race different groups (vs 18 Corvettes) accounting for an awesome one out of every three cars.
Thanks to Larry VanScoy and David Ferguson for the great photos.
