Maiden win for Callaway C7 GT3-R against the supercars at the Sachsenring round 2 in the ADAC-GT series
In a bold maneuver at the start, # 77 Daniel Keilwitz saw an opening, took the outside line, floored it, passed 5 cars and moved up to third on the opening lap. His next victims were the # 25 Audi R8 LMS and the 2015 champ # 1 Mercedes AMG GT3 that put him in first.
Jules Gounon extended the lead following the driver change. When the safety car bunched up the field, the young Frenchman made a perfect re-start to win the Sunday race 2.
(Blast from Nov 2015 - Jules Gounon shared the ex-Doug Rowe Greenwood Corvette with his dad Marc that won its class at the 2015 HSR Classic 24 at Daytona).
Starting 18th, # 69 Dominik Schwager (AutoArena) finished 13th after a drive-thru penalty for a pit stop infraction.
Early in Saturday’s race Gounon managed to secure 2nd but fell back in safety car traffic. Keilwitz charged to finish 4th after the driver change pit stop. The # 69 collided with a Porsche and finished 19th after serving a drive-thru penalty.
Callaway Team principals Giovanni Ciccone and Ernst Wöhr are justly proud of winning the second time out in their groundbreaking new GT3 Corvette race car, not to mention mastermind Reeves Callaway.
# 13 RWT gentleman drivers Remo Lips & Sven Barth were respectively 18th and 27th in Saturday and Sunday races.
Race results compiled by Wayne Ellwood.
The next ADAC GT Masters race is June 3-5, 2016 at the Lausitzring. More at http://www.callaway-competition.de.
