Corvettes pull their weight at HSR Classic Sebring 12 Hrs

In Group A Dave Bacher partnered with Kerry Hitt, veteran pro driver to win class 3 at the inaugural HSR Classic Sebring 12 hour.  Dave finished restoring the ex- Mike Harrison Corvette just last year.

# 57 Dave Roberts was 5th in class 3 with this rare 1956/57 brought back to original specs.

In Group B Aaron Quine, another veteran “shoe” qualified Harry Dinwiddie’s ex John Carusso IMSA # 48 Corvette on the class 2 pole.  This car is one of the most documented C3 Corvettes on the circuit.  It went out early when the engine spun a bearing.

In Group E # 230 Will Hubbell partnered with mentor Eric Curran, a pro driver for Whelen Engineering since 2001 to finish first in class 2 in a 2012 C6 Daytona DP.  Eric previously raced the car in the Grand Am/IMSA series.

Cars were placed in one of six (6) race groups, A, B, C, D, E, F according to when they first appeared, ie in the ‘50s, ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s and ‘00s.  Corvettes were outnumbered 5:1 by Porsches.  Within each group cars were assigned to classes according to performance.  Over 12 hours each car ran four segments of 42 min.  Cars finished in order of most laps accumulated over the 4 segments.

In the HSR Sprint races, # 06 Dennis Shoff, # 6 Brad Hoyt and # 52 Ken Hazelton appeared in group 5.

# 26 Pete Kirill and # 64 Robert Blain ran in group 9.

It was reportedly the biggest crowd to date at Sebring for a vintage race.
