Callaway Corvette again finishes 2nd, this time at Lausitzring

Daniel Keilwitz, starting 3rd in the # 66 Callaway Corvette ZO6.R GT3 moved out to capture the lead on the first lap.  It did not last mainly due to rules seemingly designed to penalize the nearly 10 year old C6 Corvettes.   Following the Red Bull Ring, ADAC restricted air intake to 51mm which gave a big power advantage to the winner # 21 Zakspeed Mercedes-Benz SLS.  Aero rules also favor the SLS. Still seeking their first win, the Callaway Team has plenty of fight and will try to improve during the “summer break”.  Fans and organizers look forward to the C7 ZO6.R GT3.

Reportedly Diego Alessi in the # 69 Corvette got crashed out by another car in the first corner of Saturday’s race.  In Sunday’s race, Patrick Assenheimer sensed an engine problem and stopped the car as a pre-caution.

Tires were an issue for all competitors due to high track temperatures. 

Swiss driver Remo Lips in the # 13 RWT Customer Team Corvette ZO6.R GT3 still leads the gentlemen’s class even though co-driver Sven Barth got passed on the final lap by a BMW Z4 GT3.

The 2.7 mile 14 turn sports car course runs through the infield of the tri-oval “Euro Speedway” circuit at Lausitzring.  The track is located in the city of Lausitz deep inside East Germany.  It was built in 2000 on land that once was a coal mine to help boost the economy by attracting “oval track” style racing.  Since then it claimed the life of ex F1 driver Michele Albiretto killed in testing; and the career of ex Indy star Alex Zinardi who was severely injured in a crash.
