Notes: When Morrison decided to enter the SCCA WC series for 1990, he ordered three R9G cars.
These did not arrive in time for the first few races, so he prepped a regular “street” 1990 to run as # 99 for the first few races. It is part of the verbal history that this first (# 99) car was, at one point, driven by John Heinricy and crashed.
NOTE: Although race records do not indicate that Heinricy either drove or crashed the car, it is suggested by a co-driver (Don Knowles) that they switched around very frequently and the actual drivers did not always match with the entry forms. We are seeking validation from Heinricy.
The first car was set aside and stripped for race parts and body panels. Somewhat later, Robert Mecker purchased the car as a wreck and repaired the front frame work and door hinge pillar. He then installed suspension and made it roll. The car had been languishing behind the shop with no suspension when he bought it. Body panels from Tommy Morrison’s cache of parts were also purchased to complete the job.
The car was then purchased by Brett Henderson (current owner). The car is offered for sale on E-Bay, as at March 2010.
By way of additional detail, readers will note that after the crash, Morrison put a second car into service. At one point, it was thought that perhaps the R9G cars had arrived and one of these became the second # 99.
Research with the current owner (Robert Pfeffer) suggests the second car was an earlier World Endurance car (white # 1) from 1986, rebuilt to R9G equivalency.
The second # 99 car is owned by Robert Pfeffer and ran as # 99 in 1990 and # 96 in 1991. It has subsequently been painted black and is being run as an SCCA club racing (ITE) car by Jonathan Pfeffer. Car has run as #23 and # 10. See separate data entry.
