It was never a street-driven car. Scott Chapman worked for the Paul Newman Datsun racing team, in Connecticut in the early 70s. Base don his experience with this team he prepared an impeccable car. All systems were laid-out and labelled methodically. During the 1976-7 era, Scott also received some help from GM Engineeering. At one race a new aerodynamic nose was fitted. This required the addition of stronger springs and shcoks but also generated a 5 MPH improvement in lap times. Notes/Race History: In 1973 Scott entered a selected number of IMSA races, near his home base. Scott drove his Corvette in the 1973 12 hours of Sebring with William Hood and John McLaren, finished 21st, car number # 61. He was also shown as being entered by Sebring Racing Inc. He also was in the 1975 12 hours of Sebring, drivers were Scott Chapman, William Hood and Bob Dumont, car #62, entered by Scott Chapman. There were no races at Daytona or Sebring in 1974 due to the oil embargo of 1973. In 1976 he concentrated on the SCCA National series and went to the ARRC run-offs in 1976 and 1978. He finished 8th in BP in 1976 and 4th in BP in 1978. After this, the car was sold to Paul Newman, who didn’t seem to like it. Scott bought the car back, two years later (circa 1980 or 1981) In 1985, Don Nooe drove the car at Sebring, together with Jim Stricklin and Tim Stringfellow. Bill Tower purchased the car in 19__. The car was dis-allowed for vintage racing until Bill could change the rear clip back to the 1968 sytle. The car had been updted to a later style for the 1985 Sebring race and that was how it had been purchased. Fortunately, the original body panels were still with the car and the retrofit was relatively easy. Registry ID Number: 822 View Original Size ![]() Bill Tower |
