URL: Unique Characteristics: Modifications: This car was built by Dave Herlinger in Mountain View (CA) for Jeff Sherman. It was based on the chassis for Dave's 1968 390 HP roadster. Jeff Sherman never raced the car but, rather, sold it to Larry Park of San Francisco. Larry made subsequent modifications to suit his needs. Larry took his drving school in this car in the SCCA's San Francisco Region in 1979 and began his SCCA road race career in 1980. The car was a small block and ran B-Production. Larry had a reputation for being able to build a "light" car and then ballast it to balance the chassis. Notes/Race History: Larry took his drving school in this car in the SCCA's San Francisco Region in 1979 and began his SCCA road race career in 1980. The car was run as a small block in B-Production. Larry took this car through Driving School in 1979 and raced GT-1 and Trans Am up and down the west coast from 1980-1983. Log book shows entries from the Vegas Trans Am, Sears Point, Laguna Seca, PIR, and Seattle. Larry entered four Trans-Am events in each of those years and also ran GT1 in various regional races. Larry broke the track records at both Laguna Seca (August, 1981) and Sears Point (September 1981. In both cases his times were seconds (not tenths) ahead of the standing record. At Laguna Record his time was 1:12:35. At Sears Point the time recorded was 1:46:34. At Sears Point, Larry took 1st place in the GT-1 class at the 4th Annual Pacific Coast Road Racing Championships with that record lap, beating out the big bore cars. The car was then raced by Doug Foster in Solo II events, and was painted orange and red in a diagonal stripe pattern. Ray Atteberry (third owner) also raced the car in SCCA Solo II and slalom series as it was generally ineligible for the historic race series of those days. Ray was responsible for repainting the car to blue and reverting to the roadster form, with a Greenwood-type widebody. The widebody was fabricated by Frank Emmett, a local builder who is best known for his carbon fiber work, for another racer who subsequently decided not to take it. In late 2007, the car was offered for sale with both the updated Greenwood-style wide body (raodster) and the originial Larry Park coupe style body. It was also offered for sale with parts for a dry sump conversion including a Weaver 4-stage pump and Morroso pan and tank. Notes on Larry Parks can be searched on Google or by going to the San Jose Mercury News web site. There are numerous articles on larry's racing and the story of how he was shot to death by his wife Patti, in 1995. Registry ID Number: 445 View Original Size ![]() Ray Attebury |
