Paint job by Randy Wittine....according to Tony DeLorenzo, it was considered to be in style, at the time. Current paint job is a tribute-style to the Owens-Corning cars, serving to emphasize Tony's reputation as a driver and a builder. Modifications: Race prepared Notes/Race History: The car was built in the winter of 1970 by the Owens-Corning Fiberglass racing team for Tony Delorenzo`s friend German Pan-Am pilot Curt Wetzel. The Wetzel car started life as a recovered theft Tony "got" from Don Yenko. Tony thought it was Randy`s LT-1 that they had used to build the Wetzel car (but as of when I called him - Wittene) he still owned it. Tony/O-C team built the car in the winter of 1970, it got one of the three complete roll cages Tony had Logghe Stamping (Michigan NHRA funny car chassis builder) bend up. Wetzel raced in Germany 1971-72 winning ADAC races as well as the 50th anniversary race at the AVUS track in Berlin. Cam Champion raced in Canada winning a six hour "Sundowner' at Mosport. Robert Milliken and Bill Stiess used the car to race in SCCA nationals. Larry Gross raced SCCA nationals and in the Trans-Am series. Keith Berg and Mitch Poremba raced SCCA Nationals and in the Trans-Am series. Current owner, Howard Nardick, raced vintage winning six group-6 races overall at Road America. All previous owners still alive and have verified ownership trail. Curt Wetzel is featured in the book Mythos Avus, SCCA log book, Autoweek articles, recollections from former O-C team members and a former O-C mechanic (Bruce Stewart) who worked for Wetzel in Germany (now a reverend in FL). Original paint by GM styling engineer and O-C team member Randy Wittine. Registry ID Number: 419 View Original Size ![]() Courtesy of Curt Wetzel |
