Notes/Race History: 004 has a long race history. Grady Davis received the car from Chevrolet and made the first race the SCCA National at Marlboro, MD on April 7, 63 with Dick Thompson driving. Road America in June 63 with Ed Lowthar driving. Watkins Glen in Aug 63 with Thompson where it won its first victory. At Bridgehampton on 9-15-63, Skip Hudson co drove with Thompson to a DNF due to brake failure. Returned to Chevrolet for flare and engine mods, car was sold to John Mecom for 63 December Nassau Speed Week Races. Roger Penske drove to a 3rd in the Governors race. Delmo Johnson wanted to buy the car and rented it. He raced it at Green Valley, Texas to a blown clutch and an overheat and DNF'd both events. Delmo was bitten by the Grand Sport and bought it for $8000. He prepared it for March 64 Sebring and he and good friend Dave Morgan qualfied 12th behind the "Columbus" Bob Johnson / Dan Gurney Cobra. After 12 hard hours, the car finished 32nd. In late 64 the car was entered in the Mexican Carrera de Costa an attempt to revive the Mexico Road Race. The event should have been called the Baja 1000 even though it went from Veracruz on the East Coast to Acapulo on the West Coast. The road surface was NOT for a race car barely 4 inches off the ground. Delmo said, after the race "The car needed a lot of work" What an understatement. In early 65, he sold it to David Greenblatt in Canada for the same $8000 and laughed for a year. Today he says that was not funny.....
